Marathon Spotlight – Jen Reilly

Reilly Rocks! She always has. Jen is my fabulous Bourne HS friend & classmate. Please support her once again as she runs the Boston Marathon for Special Olympics.

By Karina Hornbaker & Lauren Gainor

Jen Reilly’s dedication to Special Olympics Massachusetts goes beyond her commitment to run the 2016 Boston Marathon; Jen is a valued volunteer, a special education teacher for Bourne Middle School, a co-creator of a local Special Olympics program and the sister of an athlete.

Since the start of her involvement 16 years ago when her adopted brother Gregory joined Special Olympics Massachusetts as an athlete, one of Jen’s biggest accomplishment’s was creating the Cape Cod Champs volleyball and flag football program in collaboration with her sister Shannon. Over the years, the Cape Cod program has grown and so has Jen’s investment in Special Olympics Massachusetts. Jen thanks the organization for everything they have been able to give her brother remarking: “We don’t know where he’d be without Special Olympics.” Jen goes…

Sock It To You

Sock it to ’em! Love this!

Wicked Cozy Authors

Jessie, Julie, Sherry and Sheila all attended the Adapting to Hollywood conference sponsored by Sisters in Crime in Los Angeles last weekend. We had a little free time in the evening and came across a store called The Los Angeles Sock Market. It’s slogan is World’s Greatest Sock Store and let us tell you — we all (Nancy Coco and Leslie Budewitz were with us too) agreed. We loved Susannah’s post about what she’d buy us at a flea market we decided to do the same thing with socks!

For Jessie’s new Change of Fortune series:

For Sherry since Sarah Winston loves pizza:

Delivering the Truth-Happy Book Birthday, Edith!

Happy Book Birthday Edith!!!!

Wicked Cozy Authors

Jessie: In NH, where spring has gone back into hiding.

Today the Wickeds are delighted to be celebrating Edith’s newest release, Delivering the Truth! Delivering the TruthCoverThis has been a real passion project for Edith and we couldn’t be happier for this day to arrive!  Since historical fiction acts as a sort of time travel mechanism, I thought I’d ask you all which famous person from 1888 would you like to meet if you could?

Jessie: I would love to meet E.F. Benson, the author of the Lucia books. I re-read them almost every year and would so enjoy meeting their creator!

Sherry: There were a lot of interesting people alive in 1888. I couldn’t settle for just one. First up is Louisa May Alcott. She died March 6, 1888 but oh, to talk to her. She lived a hard but interesting life, and knew so many fascinating people…

Launching History

What’s your favorite historical place to walk around in?

Wicked Cozy Authors

Edith here, still north of Boston. Not launching history, exactly. But Delivering the Truth, my first historical mystery, comes out on April 8 and we have a fun launch planned! I’m giving away my last ARC of the book to one commenter today, too.

Note: Sarah H, you are the winner of Leslie Karst’s book! Please write to Edith at edithmaxwellauthor at gmail dot com, or send a facebook message. Congratulations.

In case you haven’t heard, the book features a Quaker midwife solving crimes in an 1888 Massachusetts mill town – the one I live in. I was trying to think of a good way to tie all that Island of Beyondtogether when a local author pal, Elizabeth Atkinson, asked if I wanted to do a joint launch party at Jabberwocky Bookshop, the independent bookstore in the next town. Her two children and my two all went through the Pentucket…

A Wicked Visit to the Flea Market

Susannah Hardy went to the flea market – and she picked up a virtual gift for each of the Wickeds. Super fun!

Wicked Cozy Authors

Jane/Susannah/Sadie here, feeling generous…

One of the things my family likes to do together is visit flea markets. My son looks for vinyl record albums (yes, these are resurging in popularity). My husband looks for old, well-crafted hand tools and fishing equipment. I…try not to buy books or any more china or sparkly glassware or crystal, but I do allow myself to indulge in some costume jewelry here and there.

A couple of weeks ago we visited a flea market in Dudley, Massachusetts. Because I really shouldn’t bring more stuff into my home until I can get some stuff out, I decided to buy virtual gifts for all the Wickeds.

For Edith, I got this oval cast iron griddle because it reminded me of Maddie Day’s new series . Suggest removing that piece of combustible-looking rawhide around the handle and just using a potholder:

For Sherry, I got this 4-foot-high urn. Because you can…

A Lifelong Love of Libraries

Library love❤️

Wicked Cozy Authors

By Liz, grumbling about the sneaky spring snowstorm and hoping the temps rise fast!

Last week, I did an event for the Murder & Mayhem mystery group at the South Windsor Public Library here in Connecticut. I’d never been to this library before and was delighted to go. It gave me a chance to not only meet new readers and mystery lovers, but to check out a new library.

As a lifelong reader and writer, libraries have always been a sacred place for me. I was fortunate enough to have a mother who read to me from day one, and those were always my favorite childhood memories. She began taking me to the library as a toddler, and it became our weekly date. When I was a bit older, my father ran a small driving school nights and weekends in North Andover, Massachusetts, and on Saturdays we’d go visit him. But before…
